Overpopulation of the Sunshine Coast area is not the answer to the growing trend to move to Queensland. There are many central areas that can better handle growth. The Government is allowing developers to put the cart before the horse. More and more people are moving to the Sunshine Coast, without sufficient facilities to cater for them and in an area where more than sufficient growth has already occurred.

The golden goose is being force-fed to the detriment of the whole Sunshine Coast area. All the problems of vandalism, crime, unemployment and pollution will follow. Impacts upon the marine environment of Pumicestone Passage will devastate our recreational fishing area. There are also valid concerns regarding impacts upon the Passage of airborne pollution and effluent from commercial poultry farming. Tourism industries and local residents will be badly effected if Stockland's Caloundra South development and other unsuitable applications are approved.

Mr Roy needs to be watched carefully. In future his desire to serve the electorate and his environmental credentials may come into conflict with his family's desire to sell the strawberry farm for development. While development directly on the Passage would look impossible now, the further it creeps toward the Passage the easier it would be to allow more. A waterfront development would be financially quite attractive.

Pumistone Passage-50.000people now, another 50.000 down the track?, and then some more until we stretch into Caboolture?
It is criminal madness. It will affect all marine, and wild life in the area!

This is an area vital to our breathing space. It certainly will increase global warming and cause more local pollution than we want or need.

We are going to strangle ourselves, and for what? Mainly for government being able to show to be doing something, and the greedy developers. (Who only come to help us!!!)

Codswallop!

We need to slow down on all development except essentials, and start thinking about what needs to be done and the order in which it should be done!

We regularly cruise and tour the Pumicestone Passage with regular sightings of the beautiful dugong (saw 8 last week with juvenile and a visiting male) that live here and the wonderful array of birds, both migratory and local species - they are struggling enough as it is with the current state of the Passage with runoff, pollution, loss of seagrass beds, and more importantly with the birds, the CONSTANT disturbance by people and boats - which can ultimately kill them if they cannot recuperate while they migrate - these travellers could die out in one year on our watch due to this.

We already collect about 50 bags of rubbish each Clean Up Australia Day, just from a couple of kilometres of mangroves. History proves that the more people, the more degradation with pollution and negative interference affecting an ever increasing larger circle of natural habitat.

We MUST stop, truly listen and see what we are doing to this wonderful and priceless part of the planet that we share with other magnificent and innocent creatures. Let's make them more important than Rates, 'growth' & $$ for a change.

"Yet to date there have been NO comprehensive studies which have examined the impacts of this development." Do the study, determine the impact, then take it to the people for the vote. This is about "the people" and their environment, not one over the other.

Government should definitely NOT allow this development in any form. Council/government DO NOT use the laws already existing to protect the Passage from farm runoff, grey water entering the Passage, erosion, illegal camping/fires, fishermen speeding, taking undersized fish and crabs, garbage dumping in and around the Passage, loutish behaviour and drinking parties. Local Law (Council) don't work weekends (when most of this occurs), Boating and Fisheries also have limited work schedules. Why would I expect that would improve with MORE people in the area?

This is an amazing film. It puts into perspective who we are and where we fit into nature. The end is full of positive messages about how we are changing on moving towards succeeding. I take heart from it that we can achieve a sustainable planet. let's start on the Sunshine Coast.
